Questions

My group is in charge of the About Us Page. All the information we have right now for this page is the mission statement and the date of when the Anderson Habitat for Humanity was founded. In the email that Shelby sent Angie she said that she would try to send us more information about the history of the Re-Store. I guess all we would like to know is if we need to find any more information, or if Shelby wants us to only include the information she provides us.

Final Thoughts on the Project

Now that the final proposal is finished, our group took some time to reflect on the work that went into it. As a group we worked very well together. We all had the same goals in mind for what we wanted the web site to look like, and for what information we wanted to include in the proposal. Also when we split up the work, everyone was able to do their parts, and get them done on time. Overall, we thought that our proposal turned out great. It included all the important links and information that was requested. We would like to thank Shelby for allowing us to work on her web site. As a group we learned how to make a web site, the importance of indirect and direct business writing when it comes to sending emails, and how to make a proposal. We enjoyed working on this project, and we hope that Shelby will find our proposal to be exactly what she pictured.

This week Erin and I (Sara) were able to meet and make some final decisions about both the written proposal as well as the actual website design. Each person in the group has completed their part of the proposal and it is, for the most part, complete. Over the weekend, I worked on finalizing the website design and hopefully it is what Ms. Shelby is looking for.

Weekly Update

This week our group met twice. During these meetings we discussed our ideas for the proposal, and delegated the work. We plan to have most of the proposal finished by this coming week. Sara was assigned to work on the actual design of the Website. Carson was going to start working on the executive summary, the task, and our vision. Quiesha was assigned the task of designing a cover page and writing the proposal summary. I am in charge of doing some research and writing the introduction letter. We hope to meet sometime this coming week to start putting everything together.

Update

Our group met for the first time this week. Sara and Quiesha were in Chicago for the architecture field trip so only Carson and I got together. Our goal for the meeting was to get a basic understanding of what Shelby wants the website to look like. We were able to accomplish this by looking at the information Shelby sent us. Our group plans to meet twice next week once Sara and Quiesha return form Chicago. During these meetings we will begin to put our ideas together on the actual design of the website.

Ethics

The article we found as about the Alliance for Human Research Protection. The article was about how foster care children were being used for tests. HIV positive children were used to test the safety of various AIDS drugs and vaccines. Between 1988 and 2001 465 HIV positive children in foster care were tested. The people that were tested were children and babies. The article stated that the city had allowed babies in foster care who were not perilously ill to be tested. It also stated that one family of foster parents who refused to allow their kids to be tested had their kids taken away. The most recent article about this topic stated that the New York City Administration for Children's Services was reviewing the trials that were conducted on the children.

This week, we are going to try and meet before Quiesha and I leave for Chicago. We looked over the e-mail about links that Ms. Shelby sent and it was a tremendous help. It gave us a better idea of what we need to look at and where the Habitat ReStore wants to go with this website. Hopefully we can begin to really get to work on the actual website design and layout and ideally get some proofs worked out after Fall Break.

Habitat Helpers

This week we wrote Ms. Shelby an email informing her on how we are excited to working on this project. We are beginning to prepare the website for the Habitat for Humanity. We looked over the old design of the website and we think that we can make it better. We would like for the website to be appealing to all ages and one that people want to look at. This week we are planning on meeting to compare ideas and decide on what we should begin with on the website.

Designing Your Document

Our book provides a clear list of things to do in order to write a clear, readable, and well-designed business letter. It contends that in order to write a letter that physically looks good on paper, you should do the following:
  • Use quality white paper.
  • Use standard size envelopes.
  • Center the letter on the page so that it is surrounded with white space.
  • Put the date 3 lines underneath the letterhead, or below the address line.
  • Put the inside address 2-6 lines below the date, make sure it is on the left side of the page.
  • Make sure your margins are atleast one inch.
  • If you have a letterhead use full-block style.
  • If you are using a blank sheet of paper use modified-block style.
  • Put the salutation 2 lines underneath the inside address, on the left side of the page.
  • Begin the body 2 lines below the salutation.
  • Paragraphs should be single space, but there should be a double space between paragraphs.
  • Place the closing 2 lines below the body.
  • If the letter is 2 pages, make sure page 2 has atleast 2 lines of text from the body.
  • Lastly make sure each part is spaced, and placed correctly.
  • You might also include typist initials, enclosure notation, cc (appears on all copies), and bcc (appears onlu on the leter to the blind copy recipient), 2 lines underneath the closing.

Introduction

Hey everyone,
We are team Habitat Helpers! My name is Erin and I am the group leader and secretary. Our team's PR person is Carson. Sara was chosen to be our designer, and Quiesha is the team writer. We are all looking forward to working together to help the Habitat Restore. I feel that with our different majors and ideas, we will be able to come up with many interesting and useful designs that the Habitat Web page will greatly benefit from. All in all, this project will be challenging, but at the same time fun, and will hopefully teach us all some new skills.
